**Obi Wan is currently being fostered in Houston. Unfortunately, meeting him prior to his adoption will not be possible. Obi’s adoption donation is $300USD with local area Houston pick up. Because caring for the dogs is so expensive, the adoption donation is non-negotiable.**
Obi Wan is literally one of the coolest dogs we have ever had the pleasure of rescuing. He came to us from a kill shelter an emaciated and dejected boy, but quickly started perking his amazing ears up for us and realized life was good!
Obi is an 18-24-month-old Dane/American Staffordshire mix. He is currently around 70 pounds and fully grown. He is a tall boy who likes to gallop around - we jokingly call him our Show Pony. Obi is a happy and energetic guy would be best suited for an active family that can give him plenty of exercise and would likely be best placed in a home with a yard. Because many apartments and condos have breed and size restrictions, it is important to check with any property manager about being able to own his breed mix prior to applying.
Obi currently lives with other dogs and has done great with them. He lives with dogs ranging from an 8-pound Chi to a 70-pound American Bulldog, so he has been exposed to dogs of all sizes. He has also been introduced to cats and did fine. He was a bit curious, but not aggressive. He does not however live with cats, so a family with cats would need to commit to a slow and proper introduction.
He loves to play (he will steal all of your socks!) and to roll over (with a thud) for belly rubs – those are his favorite thing! He loves to chase the ball and to carry around his stuffies. He rides great in the car, enjoys getting out and about on the town to meet new people, and likes to take walks. With proper conditioning, he would make a great running or hiking buddy.
Obi has met and done well with children, but with his size, we would recommend he be adopted by a family with older children just so he doesn’t accidently knock a little one down while running around.
Obi has done a great job of acclimating in his foster home and is house and kennel trained. But
should be adopted by a family who understands that he will take time and patience as he acclimates into his new life. He may have accidents, chew on things he is not supposed to, and bark in his kennel. It can take dogs a few weeks to properly acclimate to their new lives, so he is seeking a family that can give him this time and work with him on becoming an even more awesome dog than he already is.
Obi should be adopted by a family who plans to keep him indoors as part of a family - we do not adopt dogs into situations in which they will be left outside for extended periods of time unattended (for example, the entire work day).
Obi is fully vetted (neutered, shots, & microchip) and has no known allergy issues.
Unfortunately, because Obi was not cared for well before coming into rescue, he is heartworm positive. He has been started on a slow kill protocol and the rescue will provide the medication and direction needed to continue him on his treatment plan. He is has no symptoms or side effects, it is just something we need to continue a small amount of medication monthly.

Reggie's Friends- Austin
Reggie’s Friends was founded out of our love for helping dogs. Living in a city of 1.2 million homeless animals, there was rarely a day when we didn’t see a dog in need of help. Instead of just wanting to do something, we figured out how to do something! Reggie’s Friends is dedicated to the health and welfare of dogs in and around the greater Houston, TX area. We focus our attention on helping shelter dogs, street dogs, and dogs who have been abandoned in boarding facilities find loving, forever families.
We are based out of Houston, Texas and our team supports adoptions over the whole state of Texas.
Our adoption process begins with an adoption application and a home visit. Once an applicant is approved, an adoption contract and fee are required before the dog can join their new family.
