Sophie is looking for a comfy and quiet life. She's a 10-year-old Domestic Shorthair (a sweet senior, if I may) who unfortunately suffers from arthritis. You won't see her leave her bed much. Except for feeding time and potty breaks, her stiff and painful joints keep her tethered to her pillow. She's being treated with pain meds to help ease her pain and she has a Guardian Angel making her adoption fee $0. Despite her discomfort, she loves affection (especially chin and head scratches), but she prefers if you keep it mostly above the neck. Because of her situation, we'd prefer if she went to a quiet home with no children or other pets. She's looking for a loving home to retire to, and we're hoping she won't have long to wait.

San Antonio Humane Society
Our mission is to protect and improve the lives of dogs and cats by providing shelter, care, adoption, rescue, spay and neuter programs, and community education.
The San Antonio Humane Society (SAHS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, no-kill organization that has served Bexar County and its surrounding areas since 1952. Every year, the SAHS shelters, medically treats, and rehabilitates approximately 5,000 animals. Many have been injured, abused, surrendered by their owners, or found as strays, and they remain in our care until adopted. Through our adoption, volunteer, foster, and educational programs, we remind the public of the importance of responsible pet ownership, microchipping, and spaying/neutering. As a no-kill organization, the SAHS saves healthy pets, as well as dogs and cats needing medical attention, with euthanasia reserved only for untreatable animals. While many believe that the SAHS is affiliated with and receives funds from the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), this is not the case. Therefore, donating locally solves a local problem.

What is the process for adopting a pet?
After you’ve found the pet you would like to adopt, we ask you spend 20-30 minutes with the pet to make sure he/she is your perfect companion. When you’re sure this is the pet for you, let the kennel staff know. They will place an “adoption pending” tag on the pet’s kennel and give you a paper with the pet’s name and ID number to take to the front desk. After presenting the paper to the front desk Adoption Counselors, they will give you an application to complete and return to them. A counselor will sit down with you as soon as possible to review your application and talk with you about the pet you’ve chosen to adopt.
What is the adoption fee?
Puppies under 5 months = $130
Dogs 5 months and older = $45
